Modified Townie/NPC Names



After getting the same Maxis names over and over, and all the mods I've come across being unrelentingly Anglo-Saxon, I broke down and spent an afternoon combing a dozen different name lists. I took the ones I liked (and even some I didn't) and jammed them all into this mod.

While this list does have a bunch of Anglo-Saxon names, I also threw in Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Indian, Arabic, Hebrew/Biblical, French, Irish, German, Polish, Swedish/Dutch, Italian, Greek--pretty much everything you can possibly think of. You will get some funky combinations with this mod, so if you don't like some of the things you get with the Maxis pool (like Solveig Chin), it probably isn't for you. If you run an extremely multicultural neighborhood like I do, though, or at least enjoy out of the ordinary names, this will be more your speed.

This name list has over 2.5 million possible name combinations. If you get a repeat, I will be surprised. And horrified. Mostly horrified.

Installation Instructions:
Unzip that sucker and stick Live.package anywhere in your Downloads folder. Note that this mod is not compatible with any other name-changing mods. Changing the file name to anything except Live.package will probably cause issues. Leave it as is just to be safe. This will not change your current townie/NPC names, but any time the game generates a new townie/NPC, the name will be plucked from the new list. Works best in clean and spring-fresh neighborhoods. Base game through AL compatible.

When you say it's not compatible with other name-change mods, does this include TwoJeff's Simblender and InSim? Because I rather like the names you have.

I mean any other "Live.package" files--basically, any other pool of names that the game picks from. As far as I know, having more than one Live.package in subfolders can potentially cause wacky hijinks. It has full compatibility with any other mod that doesn't replace the default Maxis pool.

I can always use another list of names to rotate in when I create townies (if, say, there was some sort of divine retribution in the form of a mass plague killing off a bunch of townies >_>) I really like the names you've chosen too.

OH. MY. GOD. I had been considering going through and making one of these myself as I too was getting jack of the largely Anglo-Saxon naming schemes everyone was putting into their name mods, but this is a piece of awesome that was JUST what the doctor ordered.

You win ESPECIALLY for names like Ganesh, Jean-Baptiste, Lieselotte & Quinn!

Aleksei grabbed my attention, then James caught it a bit more. Then you threw in Tobias, Ulrick,and Viktor and I was pretty much sold. Hannelore, Septima, and Serafina probably would've cemented it though.

I usually ignore name mods because they seem rather limited to me. But then you go and add in names from a billion and three different languages. <3 I am so using this.
